Fleshy Colours and First Steps

Okay, I cancelled some of my other purchases (thanks Phantek for saying that you had a case for me, taking my money for a couple months and never sending anything?) And am moving up the timeline for some of this project.  First off I think that I am going to make a decision about the first unit I purchase and how I am going to make some of the painting decisions. My first thought was to buy a box of acolytes and sort out the flesh, carapace and clothing colours. I am still on this thought but I am going to check what's in stock at Sentry Box (my FLGS) and go from there. It could also be that I buy a box of something cheaper (I don't know 5 Cadians) and just test some paint on them.  The colours I am most interested in testing is the tan flesh to a deep red-black-brown in splotches or leopard spot transition into the carapace. I know that that sentence is a mess so when I get the first sets of this stuff done I will start sharing actual pictures from my progress. I am still ver...

Agri-Planet business is booming

Image
I often want to make bases that are...more elaborate...than what is required. Since we're on a back-water agri-world forgotten by the Imperium of man we should reflect that in some way. Now, I don't know lore very well but I have gathered a few things about agri-worlds.  1) They produce food So when you have forge-worlds it makes sense that everything on that world is entirely based around industrial manufacture. Well, it doesn't, that is stupid and nearly everyone can understand why it is stupid but the lore says it isn't stupid so it isn't stupid. The same argument applies to hive-worlds. Given in the story of Warhammer 40,000 these worlds exist and aren't stupid we need to have a world that produces a fuckton of excess food, so much so that the Imperium sends food fro one planet to another. So...there should be some reflection of agriculture on the bases I want to make.  2) They are back-waters Even on top of me choosing a world that has reverted itself even ...

Colour Scheme Narrowing

Image
Well, I have had a little bit of time this afternoon to futz around with coolors.co and have found a couple of schemes that I am willing to explore further. They are all "similar" in the following ways.  1) Three patriarchs, three colours I want each of the cults to have their own accent colour. This will help me keep rules straight on the tabletop while also letting the larger army be based around similar colour schemes that will generally apply.  2) I want to keep the colour in the wasteland family I am going to keep all of my cult colours in the wasteland colour family of reddish-brown tones using a golden yellow and deep black-brown as the maximums of those colour families. I haven't sorted out how light the "main" colours will be.  3) Sepia filters Unlike MOST of the minis I have ever painted I want to use a warm white as the highlighting mix instead of the usual neutral/bright sunlight zenithal lighting I normally use. This also means that I want a really...

Take down the tritriarchy?

Image
I am a little busier with work today, but last night I did make a little progress last night. I am currently moving around on the name "Tritriarchy". Not because it is a great name because it is an enormous fuck you to anyone trying to pronounce it.  Tri-Tree-Archy...yep. It even comes with a great symbol that I put together that I think it hints towards my ultimate goals from the cult. Death from above, below, and straight across the field.  Okay off to do some work so that I can continue to eat.

A list, a list! My Cult for a List!

Image
I have teased at this enough so here is the list I am starting this project with*. I present to you version 1.0 of the list. That asterisk above is going to mean everything is subject to change because we're still 1+ weeks from the FAQ and points for 9th**. Right now. On July 14, 2020, at 12:55 pm local time in the place that I am this list doesn't violate any specific rules***. There are a couple of rules that I think are not quite right, but I am building in Battlescribe and the tiny red exclamation point comes on every time I try to add the things I would like to do.  Enough already, here is the list: Battalion Detachment +5CP (Tyranids - Genestealer Cults) [24 PL, 8CP, 417pts]  Configuration [8CP] Battle-forged CP [3CP] Cult Creed: The Rusted Claw Detachment CP [5CP] HQ [12 PL, 224pts] Patriarch [8 PL, 149pts]: 2x Familiar [24pts], Monstrous Rending Claws, Power: Unescapable Decay, The Crouchling Primus [4 PL, 75pts]: Blasting Charges, Bonesword [3pts], Needle Pistol, Toxi...

More Colour Talk

Tooling around the internet trying to find colours and I came across this site: 100% go visit and support The Colors of Motion . Seriously. They are doing something super cool and we should all try to give them a couple bucks if we're able to. I will eventually. But right now I am still budgeting for getting this army to the table in an undisclosed reasonably short (January 2021) period.  Django Unchained Mad Max: Fury Road Still looking for a design inspiration that isn't cringe-inducing. I have stuff from an older project that never really got off the ground. But I'll leave that for a later date. For now we continue the search. Tooling around the internet has its uses and I can tell you that this is one of the most fun I have run across in my "How do I assemble an ol' west, scrappy, wasteland raider aesthetic".

The Maverick, the Lion, and the Preacher

Image
Last night I wanted to watch some movies to attempt to gather inspiration for this project. I got more than slightly sidetracked. But I think both movies informed what I would like to do with this project. I want a cult that rewards patience and planning. One that crumbles when it is skillfully intercepted. But I also wanted a story of the cult...something that brings people to it. I know the lore says mind-control orgies are the way of the cult, but what if it wasn't JUST that.  What did I watch? Django Unchained Listen, this movie is super uncomfortable. Like most Quentin Tarantino flicks it revels in its own violence and the discomfort it can pass along with violent action. This one in particular revels in the ABSOLUTE humiliation of the Antebellum South. Which I don't want to get into, but is absolutely necessary. The world is burning and the inability to extend basic empathy beyond the self or the near-self that is stoked to incredible heights by fascist demagogues around ...
