The Maverick, the Lion, and the Preacher
Last night I wanted to watch some movies to attempt to gather inspiration for this project. I got more than slightly sidetracked. But I think both movies informed what I would like to do with this project. I want a cult that rewards patience and planning. One that crumbles when it is skillfully intercepted. But I also wanted a story of the cult...something that brings people to it. I know the lore says mind-control orgies are the way of the cult, but what if it wasn't JUST that.
What did I watch?
Django Unchained
Listen, this movie is super uncomfortable. Like most Quentin Tarantino flicks it revels in its own violence and the discomfort it can pass along with violent action. This one in particular revels in the ABSOLUTE humiliation of the Antebellum South. Which I don't want to get into, but is absolutely necessary. The world is burning and the inability to extend basic empathy beyond the self or the near-self that is stoked to incredible heights by fascist demagogues around the world will lead us to immeasurable suffering. This movie is a deconstruction of that and aside from the kick-ass montage at the end of the movie of Jango literally unloading on everyone with a smile on his face.
Regardless, in that final scene, Django shows up dress in Monsieur Candie's clothing. Literally wearing the clothes of his oppressors Django murders everyone after he has accomplished his mission and then blames the old guard for the troubles of society while blowing the house down on top of them. I guess you know the scene I am talking about. If you don't, go watch Django? Either way, I like the idea of an enemy force that dresses in the clothing of the oppressor so we're going to probably try to keep that in mind as we get closer to a trial colour schemes (which I have models for already but don't appear in the mythical list).
A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood
It should never be a secret I love Fred Rogers. In the above-mentioned world, Fred tried to teach us all that it is okay to feel and there are positive ways of experiencing emotions. Bang the low keys on the piano real hard Fred you fucking hopeful, soulful, giant of a human. I realize my worship of Fred Rogers goes well beyond what normal people feel for the man. Did you know he was the Captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins? He argued and won in front of Congress stopping them from cutting $20 million from public television in the United States? Listen...if tomorrow afternoon the Church of Rogers started recruiting in my neighbourhood you can guarantee, in a second, that all my earthly possessions would be cast aside in search of the Rogers inside of me.

| The movie/framing device was "meh" but Tom Hanks is Fred Freaking Rogers. |
It would take a second. So what if my cult was centred around a cardigan-wearing man so sweet and thoughtful and wise and just nice? I mean, he isn't going to be Mr. Rogers exactly. But there are Magosi (sp?) in the cult that could stand in as Fred Rogers. Obviously, not the current sculpts. Also, this is all just deep lore for my own personal edification and me coming to the realization that Fred loved me just the way I am and that I never got to thank him for it.
The Lion
Weird things happen when you are looking at pictures, or movies, or just life I guess...whatever. Worst intro sentence since "Webster's dictionary defines...". Anyway, in the above photo of a wonderful man portraying a wonderful man, you can see Daniel "Striped" Tiger (I don't know if that is his middle name or a nickname). When you just search for Elysian I also get a bunch of photos of lions for some reason. Long story short I am contemplating using big cat camouflage on the carapace because large predators have genuinely different camouflage techniques than our current iterations of insects.
Also, briefly imagine a centipede the length of a Honda Civic that you didn't notice until you were just under a foot away because it is using blending camouflage.
